Panama City Beach received approval from the United States Corps of Engineers to embark on two major beach renourishment projects which will employ one million cubic yards of sand on approximately 10 miles of beach. The total investment is $22 million and work is scheduled to commence as early as this fall.  This will be the third major beach replenishment undertaking the destination will have completed in the past 12 years.

“I’m thrilled that our city leaders and government officials share the foresight to keep our beaches healthy,” states Dan Rowe, president and CEO of the Panama City Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau. “We are delighted to more forward in this important endeavor that will greatly impact Panama City Beach for generations.”

Each year, Panama City Beach attracts six million visitors to the destination for its award-winning white sand beaches and this figure is expected to grow with next month’s opening of the Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport. Strong beaches also provide protective barriers to nearby homes, hotels and roads.

“This is a win-win decision for everyone – travelers who are seeking an authentic beach vacation and residents who are fortunate to call Panama City Beach home,” adds Rowe.
