Hombre Golf Club, Resort Collection’s signature twenty-seven-hole championship golf course in Panama City Beach, has fully reopened its clubhouse after undergoing extensive renovations over the winter season. The improvements include new office space, an expanded retail section in the pro shop, fully renovated dining and bar areas, newly designed men’s and women’s locker rooms, and the installment of a custom art piece in the clubhouse entry featuring pro golfer Ben Hogan. Upon entering the clubhouse, members and visitors are greeted with a seven-foot-high, 11-foot-wide glass etching of Hogan’s famous 1-iron shot from the 1950 U.S. Open at Merion. The piece was commissioned by Hombre Golf Club owner and course designer, Wes Burnham, and was created by the late artist Josef Meier of Panama City Beach in 1989. Following its creation, the piece was shipped to Hogan’s home in Fort Worth and signed by him with an etching pen in 1990. Par-Con, Inc. was the general contractor for the project in collaboration with Bowers Construction and the Resort Collection team. In addition to greatly improving the flow and aesthetics of the clubhouse, the renovations allow Hombre to accommodate more and larger tournaments, bringing players to the Panama City Beach area from across the country.
Hombre has long been known for hosting the annual PGA Tour Qualifying School and has been played by distinguished golfers such as Gary Nicklaus, Mike Weir, Michael Campbell, Frank Lickliter and Scott McCarron, to name a few. The course is also home to the Academy at Hombre Golf Club, offering classes, camps private instruction with golf professionals under the direction of Adam Brack.
The Grand Opening celebration of Hombre’s newly renovated clubhouse will take place March 26 during the Panama City Beach Chamber of Commerce’s After Hours event.
