5 Reasons Why Locals Love Fall in Panama City Beach
and why you should too!
It’s no secret that Panama City Beach is THE Florida beach to visit in the peak of summertime. However, it is our opinion that the fall season is the absolute best time of year to plan a trip down to the emerald coast. There are the obvious factors like fewer crowds, better rates, and cooler weather, but there is so much more to our fall in Panama City Beach—let us tell you 5 reasons why!
While everyone is used to spending their days on the beach soaking up some good Vitamin D, the cooler temperatures in the evenings during the fall make it prime time for sandy beach bonfires. They are just as tranquil as they seem. Imagine the waves crashing in the background as your only music, delicious s’mores making, and making unforgettable memories with friends. Having an open bonfire on the beach has been prohibited in Panama City Beach in the past and has just recently been approved to allow. What an exciting and worthwhile activity to try this fall.
Sure, there are some of the biggest holidays during the summer, but Panama City Beach has some of the best events during the fall. The Pirates of the High Seas Festival is a perfect event for the entire family over Columbus Day weekend each year. Held in the streets of Pier Park, festival-goers can watch the Pirate Craw parade, a true pirate invasion from the shores of the beach, live music, fireworks, and much, more.
Fall is also the time for great beer and brats! The official Panama City Beach Oktoberfest is on for two days of German and locally brewed beer, food, music, as well as activities for kids and families. It is definitely a don’t miss occasion that will leave you chanting – prost!
Dine outside without humidity or pesky bugs
While the sun during the day is still warm, the coolness of the fall breeze keeps bugs and humidity at a minimum, making outdoor meals perfectly pleasant. Panama City Beach has many local restaurants that offer patio or outdoor dining options and so frequently, the summer heat has locals willing to wait an extra 20 minutes for a table inside with air conditioning. Now there is no reason not to have the view and the delicious food.
The Gulf waters are still warm
The absolute number one reason why locals love fall is the appearance of the Gulf of Mexico. There isn’t another time you will see more clear, turquoise and calm waters than in September, October and November. The sparkling water and sandbar that extended several hundred feet out from the shore made the Gulf feel like a gigantic, shallow wave pool. Autumn’s calm, clear waters create optimal conditions for paddleboarding, kayaking, jet skiing, and make for the best pictures!
Hiking and biking
Summer hikes and biking trips can be brutally hot and humid in Florida. This is reason enough for those active vacationers to get xo excited about the fall weather conditions. Luckily, Panama City Beach has plenty of parks and trails to discover the natural surrounding and beautiful landscapes of the unseen areas of the beach. Check out some of the most scenic hiking trails in St. Andrews State Park and Camp Helen State Park. For the ultimate outdoorsman, bike, hike or walk over 24 miles of trails, split into 12 different routes at the Panama City Beach Conservation Park. There are so many opportunities to encounter wildlife like deer, alligators, birds, and much more.
